RALEY SEARCHABLE DATABASE

This database is of the descendents of Mathias (the elder) a.s.a. Mythias who, according to my Daddy, Jess Raley, came from Ireland just before or near the start of the Revolution. Daddy tells part of the story in "MY APPALACHIA ", the first chapter of which, containing other kinfolk stories, is on line. Salient points of the Mathias story from another part of the book are included in the database.

I decided to use the HTML format for the database because it is the only format I know of that everybody who is on line can use without buying some program or the other.

The database is incomplete for several reasons.

1. I don't have all the information on everybody.
2. I have yet to add some of the information that others like you have sent to me.
3. Names of people still alive are left out on purpose to confound those who would use the database for fraud.

The database is yours free for the asking if you will e-mail me whatever information you have. Make the Subject Line say and ONLY say: raygen2010. Send a little, send a lot, you may know some small thing that none of the rest of us do. It may be a link that will lead someone else put together a whole lot of information that you would like to have. Please send the information in the body of the e-mail. If you send it as an attachment I may not be able to read it. There are at least a dozen different wordprocessor formats out there and chances are you and I use a different one.

To insert text from a wordprocessor into the body of an e-mail you need only:

1. Get the text you wish to include on your screen.
2. Place the mouse cursor at the start of the text and while holding the left button down move the cursor to the end of the text. Release the left button. The selected text should be be outlined with a different color than the rest of the screen.
3. Click the right button.
4. Click COPY.
5. Get the e-mail on the screen.
6. Move your cursor to the body of the e-mail.
7. Click the right button.
8. Click PASTE.

As the database grows I plan to start linked collateral pages for branches other than Raley.

A word on the spelling of "Raley". (That is the way that Mathias spelled it in the journal that he kept while in the service of Francis Marion.) People not named Raley have a tendency add a little something, usually an "i". This leads to confusion sometimes because in the past clerks wrote out doccuments by hand and spelled things the way that they pleased. When we run across a "Railey" we have to decide if that record is of a "Raley" or of someone actually named "Railey".

For example: Is the Daniel Railey who was, according to the May 13, 1773 issue of the Virginia Gazette, jailed as a runaway servant in Orange County, Virginia one of us? A brother to Mathias the elder? Mathias the elder himself before, perhaps, changing his name, or switching from middle name to first name; or; or; or? Or, from a different set of pups entirely? He and his companion Cornee are both about 30 years old and say that they entered at Charleston on a ship commanded by a Captain Wilson. Help me out here.

Also, I have a number of photocopies of documents and photocopies of transcriptions of documents and exerpts from e-mails in a CD file, it's too big to e-mail. We're talking about a 30 hour download.

There is a certain amount of duplication in some of these files. For the time being I am including near duplicate files because there may be subtle differences that I might overlook.

Everything on the CD was given freely to me, I pass it freely to you and you are encouraged to pass it freely to others engaged in genealogy who are willing give it to others freely. No natural person, partnership, group, corporation, limited corporation, organization, union nor artifical person may sell any information derived from this CD, nor distribute it in any manner that requires the recipient to provide personal information, nor post it on a web site or web page that requires the recipient to accept a "cookie", nor post it on a web site or web page that requires persons to exchange information through it alone.

If you send me information I will include it in future CDs and will post it on my web site for a while, When it starts to bog down the server I'll send a new CD to those who have I have sent to before. I will list your e-mail address on the genealogy page my web site if you want me to.

Please say so if you do. If you don't want to be credited with information that you contribute, please let me know.

What we need most now is some solid information about Mythias (the Elder) and Vincent (the Elder). The places to be searched are Charleston and Fairfax, VA.. Was there a Mythias and a Vincent who were brothers who came from County Mayo and did both of them have sons named Vincent? Were there two Mythiases? If so which one is "our" Vincent from?
